25 Ways to Recruit Through Social MediaA whopping 98% of recruiters reported that they leveraged their social networks to fill roles in 2012. As social recruiting continues to prove itself a robust way to find and connect with qualified candidates, it’s important to take stock of your efforts and compare notes on how effectively you’re using social media to source new hires. 

Twitter 

  • Twitter users conjure 200 million tweets per day—actively question, follow, and retweet the community
  • Explore different keywords and hashtags on Twitter to reach different audiences (#jobsearch, #NAJ, #ITjobs)
  • Schedule tweets during popular industry chats if you can’t be virtually present
  • Use Twitter’s advanced search or search engines like Twellow to find the most influential people
  • Use Vine to share creative, snappy videos about the team; encourage candidates to respond with six-second video resumes

Facebook

  • Create a separate careers page on Facebook that highlights new opportunities
  • Alternatively, add a careers tab to your company page so that fans who “like” the brand also receive updates about hiring
  • Install the Work For Us app to post jobs directly onto Facebook
  • Post a Facebook Ad or promote the job post on the News Feed, and optimize the options to reach your target audience (posts advertised internationally tend to rack up spam comments!)

Google+

  • Take advantage of Google+’s young, tech bent to find a superstar programmer
  • Create a separate circle for qualified candidates and share opportunities with them (this also helps you separate your work and personal life)
  • Organize a Google Hangout to speak about your company’s values, projects, and goals
  • Optimize content to gain +1’s to boost your career site’s visibility in Google and boost SEO

LinkedIn

  • Start discussions in active groups on LinkedIn and comment on others’ threads
  • Publish relevant content to a company blog and share topics with LinkedIn groups
  • Broadcast an open position as a status update so that your connections can pass it on to their professional circles
  • Engage the community gathered around your company page with interesting content
  • Create a LinkedIn Recruiter account to reach a huge network of passive job seekers

Instagram

  • Use the hip factor of an Instagram filter to build a following and strengthen your company’s student brand
  • As on Twitter, use hashtags to find candidates, and peruse their profiles to find their linked social media accounts
  • Invent new hashtags that encourage followers to interact with your brand
  • Connect your Instagram account to your company’s Twitter and Facebook profiles

Pinterest

  • Create “pin”-able infographics about the makeup and culture of your company
  • Curate separate boards and share attractive images from your workspace, work events, and local points of interest
  • Play up crafts, travel, and food, the reigning topics that get shared by Pinterest users
  • Pin interactive content, such as video from your YouTube or Vimeo account

Most importantly, keep in mind that at their core social networks enable conversations to happen—between brands and consumers, employers and employees, recruiters and candidates. Keep the conversation going with lively, shareable content that represents both what your company does and what it stands for. Having a strong presence online will, by default, help you locate the best applicants for the job.
